Spiritual Awakening and Ancient Egypt: Nefer Atum

The consciousness of one who evolves from a lotus seed fertilized in the mud of adversity to grow upward and blossom into a pure soul of light is called “Nefer Atum”.

To be on the spiritual awakening or spiritual ascension path in life is not always easy, as it requires journeying through the dark night of the soul, being forged over and over again in the fires of transformation and upheaval.  

But what doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.  Spiritual enlightenment is born from darkness...just like the lotus flower.  

Lotus Flower and Spiritual Enlightenment

The lotus flower is a timeless symbol of spiritual purity and illumination across many Ancient Civilizations and spiritual systems and was the inspiration for my jewelry business name Urban Lotus Jewelry.  

In Ancient Egypt, to be in the Lotus State was to be in a state of pure illumination.  The consciousness of one who evolves from a lotus seed fertilized in the mud of adversity to grow upward and blossom into a pure soul of light is called “Nefer Atum”.

Lotus seeds are fertilized in mud and grow upwards towards the light to bloom into an ethereal lotus flower.  

To be Nefer Atum, was to be a being of pure light who evolves out of the ‘mud’ of challenges and adversity and blossoms into a beautiful soul of light.  

For this reason, the lotus had deep spiritual significance in Ancient Egypt.  For example, Osiris, one of the Ancient Egyptian Dieties and Twin Flame to Isis, was the first Lotus Master and is usually depicted on temple walls and scrolls with a lotus growing out of his feet.  

In addition, priestesses had the title of ‘Lotus Women’ who wore lotus blossoms in their head bands.  

Nefer Atum:  God of the Lotus Blossom

Nefer Atum is a God (Neter) whose name means ‘Beautiful Atum” and was also known as “He Who is Beautiful.”  According to the creation myth, he was the god of the lotus blossom that was born from a blue lotus bud which arose from the primal waters at the beginning of creation.

Nefer Atum represents divinity, spiritual illumination and radiant beauty and is symbolized by the lotus flower, which represents the essence of oneness with the Creator.  

Nefer Atum is the manifestation (aspect) of the Creator that embodies the highest level of spiritual awakening (ascension) and unlimited potential.

To be on a spiritual awakening path is to be on a path towards Nefer Atum.
